The airport operator is currently ready to apply for the aerodrome licence by February 28. The subsequent Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP), a major document that contains various crucial details on flight operations for pilots, is all set to be approved by the DGCA by the 5th or 7th of March. The AIP will then be published before 30th April. This will pave the path for the airport to become operational. With this airport becoming operational, the Adani Group’s revenue generation from its airport business will increase. The group will also be able to take up new projects in the airport sector.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai is the second busiest airport located in the financial capital of India. The airport handles 40 to 50 million passengers every year. However, it is operating with only one runway. The airport operates 40-50 flights per hour and over 950 aircraft daily. To alleviate the congestion and strain on the airport, a second international airport in Mumbai is much needed. The Navi Mumbai area comes with ample space availability and it was chosen as the ideal location for the new airport. It offered a solution to the capacity limitation of the existing airport in Mumbai.
Once the AIP is released, the Navi Mumbai Airport will begin operations in May. As of now, the inauguration date has been confirmed for the 15th of May. The operators are hoping that the greenfield airport will decrease the pressure on Mumbai’s present Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Currently, the airport is operating at a capacity of only single runway. The on-ground evaluation which included various key of officials from Airport Authority of India (AAI), Bureau of Civil Aviation, and representatives of both Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) aim to review the airport’s preparedness for operation.
