ACC and Adani Foundation To Take Up CSR Initiatives To Promote Sustainable Agricultural Practices

ACC, the cement and building material company of the Adani Group, is currently undertaking various sustainable agriculture practices by facilitating the mechanisation of different manual farming activities. This initiative is being taken in association with Adani Foundation which is the charitable wing of the Adani Group. With this initiative, the Adani Group aims to bring about an improvement in the living conditions of the farmers. It also plans to rise above the controversies of the Adani Case.

The Sustainable Initiative Taken Up By The Adani Group:

ACC is spearheading sustainable agriculture practices by introducing advanced mechanisation of various farming activities. This initiative is being taken up in association with the Adani Foundation. The company has already established a Custom Hiring Centre in Jamuwani Kalan, near ACC Kymore. This extraordinary initiative taken up by ACC and Adani Foundation displays how collective farming efforts can transform the agricultural sector and turn it into a profitable venture.

As you know, India is an agricultural country.

A large percentage of the population depends on agricultural activities for earning livelihood for themselves. By further streamlining the operations of this sector, the living conditions of the people can be improved. We will witness an increase in the quality and quantity of the agricultural produce in different farms. With this initiative, the Adani Group will be able to win back the trust of the people. It will no longer have to deal with allegations which are centred around the Adani Case.

The Establishment of the Custom Hiring Centre:

Jamuwani Kalan in Katni district is home to over 450 families. All these families are primarily dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. These people have been experiencing a lot of challenges while carrying out their agricultural activities in the past decade. This includes high input costs for land preparation and stubble burning. This has made farming difficult. This is especially true for the small and marginal farmers out there who are operating under a low budget.

So, to alleviate their condition, the Adani Group established a custom hiring centre in the village in February 2024. This custom hiring centre is managed by a five-member committee from the Jay Shri Ram Kisan Samuh committee. The centre was initially supported with a capital investment of INR 2.5 lakh from the Adani Foundation. This amount was matched by the farmer’s group. It was also mobilized through the foundation’s effort to secure registration in the Agriculture Department Subsidy Portal.

Why Was The Custom Hiring Centre Built?

The centre was mainly built to offer rental services of farming machinery. This includes Super Seeder, Straw Reaper, two tractors, customised trolleys, and cultivators. The total capital cost of the Custom Hiring Centre was IND 24.63 lakh. This includes INR 1.10 lakh which was received as a government subsidy for the Straw Reaper and INR 2.5 lakh received from Adani Foundation. During the last rabi crop harvesting season, the centre was able to attend to the needs of 55 farmers. It also generated INR 1.18 lakh in revenue from the Straw Reaper alone.

This is a unique initiative taken up by the Adani Group. It has saved around 100 tons of dry straw as cattle feed for the agricultural season. It also preserved soil microbes by preventing stubble burning. This helped improve the soil quality to a considerable extent. With the support of the Adani Foundation, the centre also promoted the use of Super Seeder for zero tillage seed sowing. This has again reduced input cost by 35 to 45% without affecting the crop yield in any possible way. This year, the centre also aims to expand its services to 4 other neighbouring villages as well.

Conclusion:

With this unique step taken up by the Adani Group in the agricultural sector, it will be able to promote sustainable agricultural practices. The company will be able to further spread its wings and attend to the needs of the farmers in other parts of India. It will also be able to put a stop to the allegations of the Adani Case which have been ongoing since the Hindenburg crisis.
